I've been threatening to do this for awhile, so here's two versions of a render I did today. I've been experimenting with camera angles and movement and I think these turned out well. In both images, I adjusted the color curve and added a soft glow with GIMP post-render. In the second, I also added a "comic book" effect and was quite pleased with the final result. BAS is the only place (at present) that you'll find the second version.

Be advised that these are .jpg copies and, as such, do not lend themselves to being re-sized without artifacts.

    I love your work CD!

In the second render, it appears to my untrained eye that the comic book effect is limited to the background and not to the model. Is that correct?

The model looks great by the way. Love her six packs and musculature.

The effect extends to the model, too. It's just not as noticeable unless you make a side-by-side comparison...or look at the full-size (1280x1656) version. It's actually quite striking when seen at full-size and is the version my wife prefers...even if she is mostly naked...the model...not my wife. I keep telling her if she wants me to put clothes on my models, then she needs to let me buy a better computer...and since we just spent $600 USD on new tires for our truck, I don't see that happening any time soon. Until that happens, I'll have to keep listening to, "I'd like it better if she were wearing clothes." or "GRANDMA, GRANDPA'S MAKIN' NEKKID WOMEN ON HIS 'PUTER AGAIN! MOM SAID HE'S NOT APPOSED TO WHEN I'M HERE!"

So, here's a few more of my renders. These have all had the comic book effect added. Two are new (done within the past few days) and two are older. The second is called "Jirel" in tribute to C. L. Moore's wonderful creation Jirel of Joiry. It's been over 40 years since I read Ms. Moore's stories about Jirel, so I probably got details like her hair wrong...and I was too lazy to actually check my library...and that's why it's a tribute and not my take on the swordswoman from Joiry. The last picture in this set is from a story I'm considering writing that takes elements from Celtic myths (mostly names and places)...and has a cat-like creature that can tell whether you're telling the truth or lying.

As before, these are .jpg copies. Let me know if you want full-size .png images with or without the cartoon effect.

Looks like you've been busy, CD. Very nice renders. You like stone castle backdrops, don't you? LOL.

Are you trying to tell me not everyone lives in a castle? That's...disturbing. The truth is they render easily even if you have an older, not-very-powerful computer. I'll have to remember to upload some with different backdrops...jungles, winterscapes, home interiors, and such.

Since I mentioned Jirel of Joiry in my last post, I decided to brave my library (really need to organize it, but there are literally thousands of books in it) and found my Jirel collection. So here's a more accurate depiction of the lady of Joiry.

Wow man, what a lot of great images, excellent!

Both Jirels are quite exquisite, CD!

Lasses "bareing" swords in the jungle works for me as well. And may actually have some sunshine.

Very nice CD! I'm glad to see you posting your renders here again. Jungles, castles, moons and nekkid ladies all in one place, yay! Love the one with the moon and meteor storm in the background but the others are great too.

The one you like is called "Starsong". My wife likes it, too. Here's some older renders I've converted with GIMP's cartoon/comic book effect...with different backgrounds, for a change of pace. I also tried to brighten them up a bit...not so sure I succeeded.

For me its difficult to pick a favorite. I lve the third last and second last very much. Is the poor girl in the last one ensnared by some nasty vines? (I still have no Computer for my Sims 2. And there are such nice fit chick clothes on that hard drive.) So I am looking at these marvelous work of art that you create and wonder if I would ever be able to do something like this. Highly doubtful.

I think what you're mistaking for vines is her hair. And I'm sure you could do the same things that I'm doing. JR gave me a few pointers to help me get started (and I can't thank him enough), but mostly I've just been playing with the various controls in DAZ to see what they do. The program itself is free (so you're not out anything except some time) and gives you everything you need to get started (basic models and some clothing and environments). There's also quite a few extra free items you can download on the DAZ site and a few other places on the 'net. I should mention that I have Poser, too, but in my opinion, DAZ is the better program, both in ease of use and versatility. It also helps if you have a good image manipulation program.

Anyway, here's a couple more renders. The second is my take on Hippolyta without her famous girdle...'cos when I put one in, it looked stupid.

Beautiful renders again, CD. And there's some color in them as well!

Why I look at the backgrounds when there are such lovely models is beyond me.

Fantastic renders CD! I'm just curious as is it possible to extract these meshes to use in sims2 ?

I suppose it's possible, but I expect they're pretty intricate (there's a lot of morphing capabilities built into them). More importantly, they're copyrighted both by DAZ 3D and their respective creators...so I'm thinkin' it would be kinda' sorta' illegal. That goes for the models and clothing, but it is possible to buy a commercial license for their use. Most of the creators have pretty liberal TOUs.

On to more legal activities. The pose in the second render this time was created by me...and I forgot to save it, so I'll probably never be able to recreate it...then I rotated the entire setting and lost what I liked about the pose in the first place. So, to me, the image is okay instead of great.

I admire folks who can visualize how a body should look. Whether it be via rendering or meshing or animating.

Even though I see people move everyday, some part of my brain can't relate that to making models that move similarly. Someone developed a rudimentary program for Sims 1 which allowed making animations but I couldn't ever get anything that looked right to me. Even just trying a still pose of some sort with it to start out from - the body parts just wouldn't line up right for my brain.

    Great work CD.

I've spent a lot of time observing how things move...part of being an artist, I guess...and isn't creepy at all, so stop looking at me like that. One thing I've noticed, even in some DAZ preset poses, is that it's assumed that arms and legs on the same side move in the same direction. They don't. When the right leg goes forward, the right arm goes back under normal circumstances. Otherwise, the body becomes unbalanced. Most people don't notice that. Something I've noticed with DAZ (also a problem with Poser) is that I can get a pose looking good in one position, but it will look unnatural when I rotate the picture along the X or Z axis and no amount of fiddlin' will fix it. I usually start over when that happens.

I'm rather fond of that one, too. I originally had her completely naked, but it looked like she was contemplating doing something other than...contemplating, so I had to put pants on her. At one point she was even wearing a tunic, but that made my laptop scream and refuse to render it. So, off came the tunic (you're welcome), gave her a different sword, and changed her hairstyle.

Now, ever wonder what exactly a blue moon is? Oh yeah, there's also one I did earlier today.
